My Self Care Truth Telling

Lee’s dog watching for her next moves

I've been thinking about the facades we create in order to seem legitimate or "professional," and how sometimes the things we are hiding are the very things are clients/customers/coworkers need to hear.

Here's one: You might consider me to be a kind of self-care coach... My work is all about supporting embodiment and wellbeing! But/AND -- I do not have a regular self-care routine. Actually, I'm pretty much routine resistant.

Even my dog can't quite figure me out, he's always watching to see which way I'll turn next!

Don't get me wrong - if you watched me from a birds eye view, you would see lots of acts of self care throughout every day. And, if you watched me from the inside out, you’d see moment by moment listening and responding to my body’s needs. BUT, I am not someone who gets up and meditates (or does Reiki, or journals, or does the same movement practice...) each morning for more than a couple of weeks at a time. It's just (at least so far in my life) not me!

When I started sharing this truth instead of withholding it from my clients, it encouraged so much relief, flexibility, creativity, and permission for each of them to find *their* way of engaging in self care.

Rather than aiming for some cultural standard for "doing wellbeing," why not give your own quirky way a try! You may find that it's more fun, and maybe even more effective.
